THIS PROGRAMME HAS BEEN SUSPENDED DUE TO INSUFFICIENT DEMAND AND CHANGES TO REGULATIONS
The provision of an exciting FOLLOW ON programme for 14 -18 year olds who have completed a Kick Start Karts (compulsory) and Kick Start Servicing programme (optional).
- This programme is available between Term 5 (April) and Term 1 (September) only
Learners will be able to demonstrate:-
- Minimum of 80% attendance and completion rates.
- Basic motor vehicle repair and maintenance skills.
- A knowledge of responsible car ownership
- An ability to prepare vehicle in accordance to specifications prescribed by the Grasstrack Governing body.
- Basic driving skills of a small saloon car.
- No involvement in car crime or a reduction in their criminal convictions for up to 6 months after completing the programmes
Method
An integrated learning facility combining basic mechanical theory with practical repair and maintenance of a motor vehicle.
Basic classroom input covering the legal requirements for vehicle use on the highways.
Driving experience.off the public highway leading to participation in locally approved Grasstrack event for Juniors
Teaching Aids
A modern, fully equipped motor vehicle workshop
One car, compliant with rules for Junior Grasstracking, will be provided by the Project for adaptation by the students.
Personal Safety
Overalls, gloves, safety boots, goggles,masks, and safety eqipment required by law– all provided by The Wheels Project.

Programme
1 x 2 ½ hour session a week for 6 weeks + 1 x 2.5 hour driving event.
Group attends The Wheels Project without the presence of others to reduce distractions and aid concentration.

Notes
- Wheels' Supervisors have the discretion to bar a learner from attending a driving session, on the grounds of safety, if that student's behaviour throughout the course has caused sufficient concern. The learner will be informed of this decision during the final session at Wheels prior to the driving event.
- It is proposed that any learner who fails to complete at least four sessions, including the driving session in week 5, shall NOT be eligible to participate in the grass track racing.

In-house certificate of completion.
Groups
- Groups will be pre-formed by the referring organisation. (Members will be familiar with each other beforehand)
- Group size is restricted to 4 learners (subject to review).
- New Learners cannot start after week 2.
- Learners will be excluded from Driving at end of term if absent for more than 2 sessions.
Criteria for Selection
Students’ behaviour should be causing concern to group leaders and exhibit at least three of the following factors:
- Aged between 14 - 18 years
- Anti-social behaviour
- Poor educational record
- Truanting
- Exclusion from school
- Involvement in illegal drugs
- Criminal record
Intakes
Intakes for groups occur after Easter of each academic term and also during the Summer holidays.

- Transport of learners is not provided by the Project, but our Minibus and Trailers are available FOC throughout the programme (subject to bookings).
Conduct of Students
- No alcohol or illegal drugs are allowed and anyone suspected of being under the influence will be excluded for that session.
- Learners who repeatedly break the rules agreed in week 1 will be warned by our supervisors, their referring officer notified and may be excluded from the group permanently if that behaviour continues.
- Violent behaviour will result in immediate removal from the course.
- Learners will be warned against bullying behaviour and will be removed from the course if this behaviour persists.
